Globtour Montenegro, leading tour operator in Montenegro, presents you the adventurous train journey through the natural beauties of Montenegro.

Experience the breathtaking Moraca Canyon. We go to the north by train and you will get an opportunity to enjoy the fascinating canyon of the Moraca river from a “bird’s-eye perspective”. We return by bus and you will experience the canyon and its narrowest and deepest part (photo stop).

The railway from Belgrade to Bar on the Adriatic Sea, 476 km long, belongs to the most impressive mountain railways in Europe. Former Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito was traveling along this railway by his Blue train. The train was used to entertain many famous guests when they visited Yugoslavia: Arafat, Breschnew, Nehru, Nasser, Mitterand and Brandt. 175 km of the line belongs to the Land of Black Mountains.

Itinerary

From Budva to Bar by bus

We leave Budva by bus. On our way to Bar we will pass by the most beautiful part of the Montenegrin coast, through the famous summer resorts: Becici, Milocer, Sveti Stefan (photo stop),  Petrovac and Sutomore. The sandy and pebble beaches along this part of the Montenegrin coast string together like a pearl necklace.

From Bar to Kolasin by train

In Bar we enter the fully renovated and completely air-conditioned train and travel on the most spectacular railway line in Europe, crossing the biggest lake in the Balkans – National park Skadar Lake. The 6,2 km long tunnel Sozina, the longest of more than 100, awaits as at the very beginning of our journey. Then we pass by the fisher village Virpazar on the Skadar lake. In 1952 the bridge was built form Virpazar over the lake. Later on it was also used for the railway. All around the bridge you will see the witnesses of the Montenegrin history – churches, monasteries, fortresses, villages, as well as profuse vegetation, particularly reed. Then we pass through the Zeta Valley to the capital of Montenegro – Podgorica. Soon the train starts to twist along the right bank of the Moraca river, along the vineyards and orchards, climbing even further and higher through the Moraca canyon (from 12 m in Bar to 1.032 m near Kolasin). On that part, the train also crosses the highest railway bridge of Europe (201 m) over the Mala Rijeka, steel bridge on the concrete piers. It is slightly curved, so one can take a look at its height. For safety reason, the train travels at walking pace, so we will have enough time to admire the wonderful view.

Lunch in Kolasin

In Kolasin we leave the train and have a lunch break in the centre of the town. Kolasin is a very popular and well-known summer holiday and wintersport resort in the continental part of Montenegro. It is located unter the Bjelasica mountain, the greenest one in Montenegro.

Return from Kolasin to Budva by bus

After lunch we travel by bus to the famous Moraca monastery, which was built in 1252. After visit of the monastery, we turn back through the Moraca canyon, Podgorica and Skadar lake as well as the mountain pass Pastrovacka gora, where you can enjoy a panorama towards Skadar Lake, on one side, and above Petrovac towards the Adriatic Sea, on the other side.
